A Choice to be considered is the premise to this body of work. The paintings I am creating represent this Choice between the bleak of winter and the warmth of spring, or simply this or that, one or another, a bridge to cross. A Choice may also come with a difficulty to overcome, or the potential of a insurmountable distance. Something one must go through, but first one must take that first step… to make that Choice..
A bridge to cross, the water deep, turbulent; or a mountain cliff appearing insurmountable… faith and choice to believe, brings the possible from the impossible, and joy when we wake.

Seeking Him
The choice we all have in everything is our own, although influenced by others, influenced from circumstances, and our past. It is a choice, it seems with everything we do and think. Let the choice be faith.
A bridge to cross; the water although deep, turbulent; or a mountain cliff may appear insurmountable… faith, choice, brings the possible from the impossible, and joy upon when we wake.

About John
Artist Bio
John Lewis studied art at Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. He has since worked professionally as an artist, and continues painting. John prefers to paint with oils, mixing the color upon the canvas to create enchanting landscapes where the paintings depict large trees twisting and twining as though they are reaching for something. The landscape paintings depict opposing seasons having a symbolism where winter is sitting quietly dormant on one side and spring pushes from the other side.
John’s portraits capture the person at just that moment looking to something distant. Giving us a wonder to what the person in the painting was looking to. The portraits have subtle hues of the skin with deep shadows to give depth to the to the subject. He applies oils to enhance the gloss and transparency of the paints applying the oil in a glazing method of layer upon layer so that the subtle color from previous layers appear through top layers. This method gives a wonderful transparency to the colors beneath. When used upon water, or skin of the painting the area possess a depth that cannot be achieved in any other way.
His current direction of work are oil paintings of landscapes portraying seasons, and choice.
